We Recycle Boxes!

We’ve been trying something new this year. In July, we started using a cardboard shredder to break down and recycle otherwise unusable boxes into packaging material in an effort to use less foam and plastic in our packaging. So far it’s been going well! Our packages are making it to their destinations intact, and we’re putting less trash in landfills. This also saves us a little bit of money, which we can pass on to you!

“Recycle” boxes? Are you using trash to pack my order?

Absolutely not! The cardboard we use to package orders is shredded down from boxes that we receive when we order office supplies and other necessities. It doesn’t sit around to rot. We store it in our temperature-controlled shop next to the shredder until shred day, wherein the fun begins!

Shred Day?

Yep. A member of our team goes to the back of the shop and feeds all of the recycled boxes into our Big Shredder, which is roughly the size of an armchair. Once we’re done (or it’s full) we empty it out into another container. We then take that container over to shipping to use it as packing material. Rinse and repeat.

What about my small parts? Won’t they be hard to find?

We thought about that! If you’ve ordered something small alongside a larger item, we do our best to make it easy to find. We either put it in a bag with your packing slip, in the box with another product, or in its own container that will stand out among the packing material. If you’re still having trouble finding your parts in the box, please let us know! We’re happy to take suggestions if our current methods can be improved.

We’re excited to continue looking into better solutions for our processes! Let us know what you think!
